The 'stage' lighting consists of two 16w caravan-style flourescent lights, built into reflectors made of sheet aluminium. Holes cut into them mean that they can either be attached to the PA speakers when on stands, or merely placed on the ground as footlights. Coloured plastic can also be placed over them, although this does reduce efficiency.Standard incandescent bulbs would take too much power from the batteries - power we don't have. Modern LED lighting assemblies are becoming more efficient and less expensive, but for our purposes only a moderate amount of light is actually required. For decorative stage lighting battery powered fairy lights and candles can be used where permissible; for working lighting we also have a small flourescent unit which can easily be hung on a convenient hook point.
The picture to the right shows Fiona Davidson performing at an evening event; one of the stage lights is clearly visible on the near side of the far speaker (no coloured filter on, alas); mixer, amplifier and battery just visible in foreground.
