what

We've been very grateful for all information and help in getting our project together. We therefore hope to share what we've learned with anyone who's interested. We'll try to add all the details we can about the equipment and construction.

Where possible we've tried to use second hand or cheap materials. Audio kit is expensive; where possible existing systems can be used or modified. Speakers, microphones and stands don't care how a system is powered. Some mixers with an external power supply can be used for mains as well as 12v use. Look for equipment with an external DC supply of 12v or less; these are ideal - effects units, CD or tape players, radio mics, even.

One personal priority has been audio quality, appropriate to the application. There is little merit in a green system that sounds poor, that not only does the idea disservice but doesn't make for comfortable listening; not good for the audience or performer. It doesn't take much to get nice sound.
